Williams' acting career began on the Broadway stage, but he soon transitioned to television and film. His early television appearances included roles in popular series of the time such as Lux Video Theatre and Kraft Television Theatre. However, it was his role in The Incredible Shrinking Man, directed by Jack Arnold, that catapulted him to fame. In this film, Williams played Scott Carey, a man who mysteriously begins to shrink.
