Greater

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Greater is a term often used in medical terminology to denote something of larger size or importance. It is often used in conjunction with anatomical terms to denote a larger or more significant part of the body. For example, the Greater Trochanter is a large, irregular, quadrilateral eminence and a part of the skeletal system.

Greater in Anatomy[edit | edit source]

In anatomy, the term "greater" is used to differentiate between two structures of the same type but different sizes. For instance, the Greater Tubercle of the humerus is larger than the lesser tubercle. Similarly, the Greater Omentum is a large apron-like fold of visceral peritoneum that hangs down from the stomach.

Greater in Medical Procedures[edit | edit source]

In medical procedures, the term "greater" is used to denote a more extensive or complex procedure. For example, a Greater Saphenous Vein procedure involves the larger of the two main veins in the leg.

Greater in Pathology[edit | edit source]

In pathology, "greater" is used to denote a more severe form of a disease or condition. For example, Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome is a condition that causes pain and tenderness at the outer part of the hip.
