Gunnar Nilsson (20 November 1948 – 20 October 1978) was a Swedish Formula One racing driver. He was born in Helsingborg, Sweden. Nilsson began his racing career in karting before moving up to Formula Vee and then Formula Ford. He made his Formula One debut in 1976 with the Lotus F1 team.
Nilsson's breakthrough season came in 1977 when he joined the Lotus team full-time. He achieved his first podium finish at the Belgian Grand Prix and went on to win his first race at the Belgian Grand Prix later that year. Nilsson's success on the track was cut short when he was diagnosed with cancer in 1977.
Despite his illness, Nilsson continued to race in Formula One until his health deteriorated. He passed away on 20 October 1978 at the age of 29. Nilsson's legacy lives on in the hearts of motorsport fans around the world.
