Guoping Feng is a prominent neuroscientist known for his research on the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and schizophrenia. He is currently a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a member of the McGovern Institute for Brain Research.

Guoping Feng was born in China. He received his bachelor's degree in biology from Hangzhou University and his Ph.D. in neuroscience from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Career[edit | edit source]

After completing his Ph.D., Feng conducted postdoctoral research at Washington University in St. Louis under the mentorship of Joshua R. Sanes. He later joined the faculty at Duke University, where he made significant contributions to the understanding of synaptic function and plasticity.

In 2010, Feng joined the faculty at MIT, where he continues to conduct groundbreaking research. He is also an investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Feng's research focuses on the molecular and cellular mechanisms that regulate the development and function of synapses in the brain. His work has provided critical insights into the pathophysiology of neurodevelopmental disorders. One of his notable contributions is the study of the SHANK3 gene, which is implicated in autism and other neurodevelopmental disorders.
