HAZMAT Class 9 Miscellaneous includes any material that poses a risk during transportation but does not fall into one of the other eight HAZMAT classes. These materials may have anesthetic, noxious, or other similar properties that could cause extreme annoyance or discomfort to a flight crew member so as to prevent the correct performance of assigned duties.

Examples[edit | edit source]

Examples of HAZMAT Class 9 Miscellaneous substances include, but are not limited to, asbestos, dry ice, lithium batteries, environmentally hazardous substances, genetically modified organisms, and magnetized materials.

Packaging and Labeling[edit | edit source]

Packaging for HAZMAT Class 9 Miscellaneous must be designed and constructed to prevent the escape of the substance. The packaging must pass certain performance tests related to its capacity, material, and design type.

The label for HAZMAT Class 9 Miscellaneous is a black and white striped diamond with the number '9' at the bottom. The top of the label contains the word 'Miscellaneous' and the middle of the label may contain a description of the hazard.

Regulations[edit | edit source]
