Habil Khorakiwala

Habil Khorakiwala is an Indian entrepreneur and philanthropist, best known as the founder and chairman of Wockhardt, a global pharmaceutical and biotechnology company.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Habil Khorakiwala was born in Mumbai, India. He completed his Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from L. M. College of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad, and later pursued a Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Science from Purdue University, USA.

Career[edit | edit source]

Khorakiwala joined his family business, Wockhardt, in 1966. Under his leadership, the company expanded its operations globally and became one of the leading pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies in India. Wockhardt specializes in the development, manufacturing, and marketing of pharmaceutical products, biopharmaceuticals, and vaccines.

Achievements[edit | edit source]

Khorakiwala has received numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to the pharmaceutical industry. He was awarded the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award in the Healthcare & Life Sciences category in 2004. In 2009, he was conferred with the Padma Shri, one of the highest civilian awards in India, by the President of India for his distinguished service in the field of trade and industry.

Philanthropy[edit | edit source]

Khorakiwala is also known for his philanthropic activities. He established the Wockhardt Foundation, a not-for-profit organization, which focuses on health, education, and poverty alleviation.

Personal Life[edit | edit source]

Khorakiwala is married and has three children. His son, Murtaza Khorakiwala, is the current Managing Director of Wockhardt.
