Hardware
Hardware refers to the physical components of a computer system. These components include the central processing unit (CPU), memory, storage devices, and input/output devices.
Central Processing Unit[edit | edit source]
The Central Processing Unit (CPU) is the primary component of a computer that performs most of the processing inside the computer. It is often referred to as the "brain" of the computer.
Memory[edit | edit source]
Memory in computer hardware refers to the electronic components that store instructions waiting to be executed by the CPU, data needed by those instructions, and the results of processed data (information).
Primary Memory[edit | edit source]
Primary Memory or main memory is the area in a computer where data is stored for quick access by the computer's processor.
Secondary Memory[edit | edit source]
Secondary Memory is where program and data are kept on a long-term basis. Common secondary storage devices include hard drives and solid-state drives.
Storage Devices[edit | edit source]
Storage Devices are used to store data and instructions permanently. They retain information even when power to the system is turned off.
Hard Disk Drives[edit | edit source]
Hard Disk Drives (HDD) are a type of secondary storage device that use magnetic storage to retrieve and store digital information.
Solid State Drives[edit | edit source]
Solid State Drives (SSD) are a type of secondary storage device that uses integrated circuit assemblies to store data persistently.
Input/Output Devices[edit | edit source]
Input/Output Devices (I/O devices) are used to interact with a computer system. Input devices allow data to be input into the system, while output devices allow information to be output from the system.
Input Devices[edit | edit source]
Examples of Input Devices include keyboards, mice, scanners, and webcams.
