Health administration or healthcare administration is the field relating to leadership, management, and administration of public health systems, health care systems, hospitals, and hospital networks. Health care administrators are considered health care professionals.

Health administration or healthcare administration is the field relating to leadership, management, and administration of public health systems, health care systems, hospitals, and hospital networks in all the primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors. In international use, the term refers to management at all levels. In the United States, management of a single institution (e.g. a hospital) is also referred to as "medical and health services management", "healthcare management", or "health administration".

Roles and responsibilities[edit | edit source]

Health systems management or health care systems management describes the leadership and general management of hospitals, hospital networks, and/or health care systems. In international use, the term refers to management at all levels. At the top level, healthcare administrators are responsible for the overall operation of a hospital or health system. This includes strategic planning, financial management, human resources, and patient care.

Education and training[edit | edit source]

Healthcare administrators are considered health care professionals. The discipline is known as health care administration and it offers a wide variety of healthcare management jobs in many different types of facilities. These administrators are vital to the successful operation of any health care system. Their work affects the quality of patient care, the cost of delivering care, and the efficiency of the system.
