Health policy analysis

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

Health policy analysis is a multi-disciplinary approach to public policy that aims to explain the interaction between public policy and health. It integrates the fields of health economics, health politics, and health services research.

Overview[edit | edit source]

Health policy analysis examines the health policy process, the political and economic contexts in which health policy is formed, and the impacts of health policy. It is a tool used to identify the most effective policy options for improving health or health systems.

Health Economics[edit | edit source]

Health economics is a branch of economics concerned with issues related to efficiency, effectiveness, value and behavior in the production and consumption of health and healthcare. It is used to understand the functioning of healthcare systems and health-affecting behaviors such as smoking, diabetes, and obesity.

Health Politics[edit | edit source]

Health politics refers to the political aspects of governance of the health sector, including decision making at the local, national, and global level that affect health policies.

Health Services Research[edit | edit source]

Health services research is a multidisciplinary field of scientific investigation that studies how social factors, financing systems, organizational structures and processes, health technologies, and personal behaviors affect access to health care, the quality and cost of health care, and ultimately our health and well-being.

Health Policy Process[edit | edit source]

The health policy process involves the planning, decision-making and implementation of programs designed to improve health. It includes the identification of a problem, the analysis of potential solutions, the selection of a solution, the implementation of the solution, and the evaluation of its success.

Impacts of Health Policy[edit | edit source]

The impacts of health policy can be measured in terms of health outcomes, access to care, patient satisfaction, and cost-effectiveness. These impacts can be positive or negative, and can vary depending on the specific policy and the context in which it is implemented.
