With the takeover of the Italian cement producer Italcementi, HeidelbergCement became the number 1 in aggregates production and ready-mixed concrete and number 2 in cement. The company is currently operating in around 60 countries with 3,000 plants, including 200 cement plants and grinding stations.

HeidelbergCement was founded in 1873 in Heidelberg, Germany. Until the 1960s, HeidelbergCement was a local cement manufacturer in Germany with a market share of around 20%. The company started its international expansion in the 1970s with investments in the USA, France, Spain, and Greece.

HeidelbergCement's core activities include the production and distribution of cement and aggregates, the two essential raw materials for concrete. The company also provides services such as ready-mixed concrete and secondary cementitious materials.
