Henry H. Chambers
Henry H. Chambers (October 1, 1790 – January 24, 1826) was an American physician and politician who served as a United States Senator from Alabama. He was a member of the Democratic-Republican Party.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Henry H. Chambers was born on October 1, 1790, in Lunenburg County, Virginia. He pursued classical studies and graduated from The College of William & Mary. He later studied medicine and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in 1811.
Medical Career[edit | edit source]
After completing his medical education, Chambers began practicing medicine in Madison County, Alabama. He gained a reputation as a skilled physician and was well-respected in his community.
Political Career[edit | edit source]
Chambers entered politics as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives, serving from 1820 to 1821. He was then elected to the Alabama Senate, where he served from 1822 to 1823. In 1825, he was elected to the United States Senate to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of William R. King. Chambers served in the Senate from March 4, 1825, until his death on January 24, 1826.
Death and Legacy[edit | edit source]
Henry H. Chambers died on January 24, 1826, in Kenner, Louisiana, while en route to Washington, D.C.. He was interred in a private cemetery in Huntsville, Alabama. Chambers County, Alabama, is named in his honor.
