Herbert Nitsch

Herbert Nitsch‏‎ (born April 20, 1970) is an Austrian freediving athlete who has held world records in all of the eight recognized disciplines of freediving. Known as "the deepest man on earth", Nitsch surpassed his own world record in 2007 by diving to a depth of 214 meters.

Early life[edit | edit source]

Nitsch was born in Vienna, Austria. He developed an interest in swimming at a young age and later transitioned into competitive freediving.

Career[edit | edit source]

Nitsch's career in freediving began in 2000 when he set his first world record in the Constant Weight Apnea discipline. He has since set multiple world records in various freediving disciplines, including Free Immersion Apnea, Variable Weight Apnea, and No-Limits Apnea.

In 2007, Nitsch set a world record in the No-Limits Apnea discipline by diving to a depth of 214 meters. This feat earned him the nickname "the deepest man on earth".

Nitsch currently resides in Ibiza, Spain, where he continues to train and compete in freediving competitions.
