Heron of Alexandria (c. 10 AD – c. 70 AD) was an ancient Greek mathematician and engineer who was active in his native city of Alexandria, Roman Egypt. He is considered one of the greatest experimenters of antiquity and has been called the greatest experimenter of antiquity. His work is representative of the Hellenistic scientific tradition.

Heron made significant contributions to the fields of mathematics, physics, and engineering, some of which are still evident today. He is most famous for Heron's formula in geometry, which allows one to calculate the area of a triangle when the lengths of all three sides are known.

Little is known about the life of Heron, and the details available are often the subject of speculation. He is believed to have taught at the Museum of Alexandria, where he made most of his significant contributions to science and engineering.
