Hichki
Hichki is a term used in the Indian subcontinent to refer to a condition commonly known as hiccups. Hiccups are involuntary contractions of the diaphragm - the muscle that separates your chest from your abdomen and plays an important role in breathing. This contraction causes your vocal cords to close very quickly, which produces the characteristic sound of a hiccup.
Causes[edit | edit source]
Hiccups are usually caused by minor everyday occurrences, such as eating too quickly, consuming certain items like spicy food or alcohol, or feeling nervous or excited. In some cases, hiccups may be caused by a variety of medical conditions, including gastroesophageal reflux (GERD), diabetes, stroke, and multiple sclerosis.
Treatment[edit | edit source]
Most cases of hiccups go away on their own without any specific treatment. However, if hiccups persist for a longer period, medical treatment may be necessary. This can include medications, surgery, and other therapies. Some home remedies such as holding your breath, drinking a glass of water quickly, or pulling hard on your tongue can also help to stop hiccups.
