Hindustan Times' is an Indian English-language daily newspaper founded in 1924 with roots in the Indian independence movement of the period. The newspaper is owned by Rajya Sabha M.P. Shobhana Bhartia. It is the flagship publication of HT Media, an entity controlled by the KK Birla family.

Hindustan Times was inaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi and known for supporting the Congress party. The newspaper spearheaded several public initiatives including the fight against the Raj (British Rule), support for a major drive against illiteracy, and job creation.

Ownership[edit | edit source]

The KK Birla group owns a majority stake in HT Media, formally known as Hindustan Times Ltd. The son of industrialist KK Birla, Shobhana Bhartia, serves as the chairperson and editorial director for HT Media Ltd and its subsidiaries.

Editions[edit | edit source]

Hindustan Times is one of the largest newspapers in India, by circulation. It is published from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Lucknow, Patna, Ranchi and Chandigarh.

The newspaper covers topics ranging from politics, to economics, to entertainment, to sports. It also includes opinion pieces and editorials, and has separate sections for world news, business news, and sports news.

In addition to its print presence, Hindustan Times is also available online, providing readers with top stories, breaking news, and a variety of other content.

Criticism[edit | edit source]

Hindustan Times has faced criticism for its coverage of the Indian National Congress. Some critics claim that the newspaper is too pro-Congress, and does not provide balanced coverage of other political parties.
