Homer V. M. Miller

Homer V. M. Miller (1822–1896) was a prominent American physician and politician. He was one of the first physicians to practice in Atlanta, Georgia, and served as a senator in the Georgia State Senate.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Miller was born in 1822 in Georgia. He attended the University of Georgia, where he studied medicine. After graduating, he moved to Atlanta to start his medical practice.

Medical Career[edit | edit source]

In Atlanta, Miller quickly established himself as a leading physician. He was known for his dedication to his patients and his innovative medical practices. He was one of the first physicians in Atlanta to use anesthesia in surgery, which greatly improved the survival rate of his patients.

Political Career[edit | edit source]

In addition to his medical practice, Miller was also active in politics. He served as a senator in the Georgia State Senate from 1859 to 1861. During his time in the senate, he advocated for improved healthcare policies and better medical education in the state.

Death and Legacy[edit | edit source]

Miller died in 1896, but his contributions to medicine and politics in Georgia are still remembered today. The Homer V. M. Miller Medical Society was named in his honor, and continues to promote his ideals of medical excellence and public service.
