The Base Hospital of the Federal District (Portuguese: Hospital de Base do Distrito Federal ) is a hospital located in Brasília, Federal District, Brazil. It is part of the Unified Health System and is the second largest hospital in the Center-West Region, Brazil in terms of the number of hospital beds.
The hospital was founded on September 12, 1960, which coincides with the anniversary of President Juscelino Kubitschek.
The hospital currently has a staff of over 3,500 and provides the largest number of inpatient treatments in the city. It also handles over 600,000 visits to the emergency department and outpatient clinic annually, with approximately 12,000 surgeries performed. The hospital has 200 toilets, 14 lifts, and over 52,000 square meters of constructed area. It is known for its expertise in areas such as Oncology, Nuclear Medicine, Transplant surgery, Epilepsy Treatment, Multiple sclerosis, and 24-hour accident & emergency services.
On March 14, 1985, the hospital received President-elect Tancredo Neves, who experienced severe abdominal pain. After surgery, he was transferred to the Heart Institute of São Paulo on March 26.
