Howie Mandel
Howard Michael Mandel (born November 29, 1955) is a Canadian comedian, television personality, screenwriter, actor, producer, director, entrepreneur, game show host, and author. He is best known for hosting the American television game show Deal or No Deal, as well as the Canadian-English and Canadian-French versions of the show. Mandel is also known for his role as Dr. Wayne Fiscus on the NBC medical drama St. Elsewhere.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
Howie Mandel was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He grew up in the Willowdale area of Toronto. Mandel attended William Lyon Mackenzie Collegiate Institute, but was expelled for impersonating a school official and hiring a construction company to build an addition to the school. After being expelled, he worked as a carpet salesman.
Career[edit | edit source]
Stand-up Comedy[edit | edit source]
Mandel began his career as a stand-up comedian. He gained recognition in the late 1970s and early 1980s for his unique style of comedy, which often included bizarre and surreal humor. He became a regular performer at The Comedy Store in Los Angeles.
Television[edit | edit source]
Mandel's first major television appearance was on the comedy game show "Make Me Laugh" in 1979. He gained further popularity with his role on the medical drama "St. Elsewhere," which aired from 1982 to 1988.
In 2005, Mandel became the host of the American version of "Deal or No Deal," which became a major hit and ran for several seasons. He also hosted the daytime version of the show.
Mandel has been a judge on the television talent show "America's Got Talent" since 2010, where he is known for his humorous and often unpredictable judging style.

Mandel has appeared in several films, including "Walk Like a Man" (1987) and "Little Monsters" (1989). He has also provided voice work for animated films and television shows, such as the character Gizmo in "Gremlins" and "Gremlins 2: The New Batch."

In addition to his work in television and film, Mandel has been involved in various business ventures. He has written books, including his memoir "Here's the Deal: Don't Touch Me," which discusses his experiences with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

Mandel is married to Terry Mandel, and they have three children. He is open about his struggles with OCD and ADHD, and he uses his platform to raise awareness about mental health issues.
