Zanolimumab
(Redirected from HuMax-CD4)
Zanolimumab is a monoclonal antibody used in the treatment of certain types of cancer. It is specifically designed to target the CD4 receptor, which is found on the surface of T cells. By binding to this receptor, Zanolimumab can help to modulate the immune response and inhibit the growth of cancer cells.
Mechanism of Action[edit | edit source]
Zanolimumab works by targeting the CD4 receptor on T cells. The CD4 receptor is a glycoprotein that plays a crucial role in the immune system, particularly in the activation and regulation of T helper cells. By binding to CD4, Zanolimumab can interfere with the signaling pathways that promote the proliferation and survival of cancer cells. This can lead to the apoptosis (programmed cell death) of these cells and a reduction in tumor growth.
Clinical Uses[edit | edit source]
Zanolimumab has been investigated for use in the treatment of various types of cancer, including:
- Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL)
- Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL)
Administration and Dosage[edit | edit source]
Zanolimumab is administered via intravenous infusion. The dosage and frequency of administration depend on the specific type of cancer being treated, the stage of the disease, and the patient's overall health. It is typically given in a clinical setting under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
Side Effects[edit | edit source]
Common side effects of Zanolimumab may include:
More severe side effects can occur and should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately. These may include severe allergic reactions, infections, and autoimmune reactions.
Research and Development[edit | edit source]
Zanolimumab is still under investigation in various clinical trials to determine its efficacy and safety in different cancer types. Ongoing research aims to better understand its mechanism of action and potential applications in oncology.
