In 1997, Hudson Foods became embroiled in a major food safety scandal involving the contamination of its beef products with E. coli bacteria. The incident led to one of the largest food recalls in U.S. history at the time, involving over 25 million pounds of ground beef. The recall severely damaged the company's reputation and financial standing.

Following the recall, Hudson Foods was acquired by Tyson Foods, one of the largest food processing companies in the world. The acquisition marked the end of Hudson Foods as an independent entity.
