Hulk is a 2003 American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Hulk. The film was directed by Ang Lee and stars Eric Bana as Bruce Banner, Jennifer Connelly as Betty Ross, Sam Elliott as Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross, Josh Lucas as Glenn Talbot, and Nick Nolte as David Banner.

The story follows Bruce Banner, a geneticist who, after a lab accident involving gamma radiation, transforms into a giant green-skinned creature known as the Hulk whenever he experiences extreme emotional stress. As Bruce struggles to control his transformations, he must also confront his estranged father, David Banner, who has his own dark agenda.

The film was produced by Gale Anne Hurd, Avi Arad, and Larry J. Franco. The screenplay was written by James Schamus, Michael France, and John Turman, with a story by James Schamus. Ang Lee was brought on board to direct the film, bringing his unique vision to the superhero genre.

The film's score was composed by Danny Elfman, known for his work on other superhero films such as Batman and Spider-Man.

Release and Reception[edit | edit source]

Hulk was released on June 20, 2003, by Universal Pictures. The film received mixed reviews from critics, who praised its ambition and visual effects but criticized its pacing and tone. Despite the mixed reviews, the film grossed $245.4 million worldwide against a budget of $137 million.

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Although Hulk did not receive a direct sequel, the character was rebooted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with The Incredible Hulk in 2008, starring Edward Norton as Bruce Banner.
