Pharmacology[edit | edit source]

ICI-164384 is a cyclooxygenase inhibitor, more specifically, it is a cyclooxygenase 2 inhibitor. Cyclooxygenase 2 is an enzyme that is responsible for the formation of prostanoids, including prostaglandins, prostacyclin and thromboxane. By inhibiting this enzyme, ICI-164384 can reduce the production of these prostanoids and thus reduce inflammation and pain.

History[edit | edit source]

ICI-164384 was developed by Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI), a British chemical company. Despite its potential as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, it was never marketed.
