ICI-55548
ICI-55548 is a pharmaceutical drug that was developed by ICI Pharmaceuticals in the 1980s. It is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that was designed to treat inflammation and pain.
History[edit | edit source]
ICI-55548 was developed by ICI Pharmaceuticals, a division of the British company Imperial Chemical Industries. The drug was part of a series of NSAIDs that the company was developing during the 1980s. Despite its promising initial results, ICI-55548 was never marketed.
Pharmacology[edit | edit source]
As an NSAID, ICI-55548 works by inhibiting the production of prostaglandins, chemicals in the body that cause inflammation and pain. It does this by blocking the action of the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which is responsible for the production of prostaglandins.
Clinical Trials[edit | edit source]
ICI-55548 underwent clinical trials to assess its safety and efficacy. These trials found that the drug was effective in reducing inflammation and pain, but it also had a number of side effects, including gastrointestinal bleeding and ulceration. These side effects, coupled with the availability of other, safer NSAIDs, led to the decision not to market ICI-55548.
