IL13RA2 (Interleukin 13 Receptor Subunit Alpha 2) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the IL13RA2 gene. It is also known as CD213a2 (Cluster of Differentiation 213a2). This protein is a part of the interleukin receptor family and plays a role in the immune system's response to various diseases.

Function[edit | edit source]

IL13RA2 is a subunit of the interleukin-13 receptor. This subunit forms a receptor complex with IL4 receptor alpha, a subunit shared by IL13 and IL4 receptors. This subunit serves as a primary IL13-binding subunit of the IL13 receptor, and may also be a component of IL4 receptors. This protein has been shown to bind tyrosine kinase TYK2, and thus may mediate the signaling processes that lead to the activation of JAK-STAT signaling pathway.

Clinical significance[edit | edit source]

The overexpression of IL13RA2 has been associated with several types of cancer, including glioblastoma, ovarian cancer, and renal cell carcinoma. It has been suggested as a potential therapeutic target for these and other types of cancer.
