iPhone 14 Pro is a smartphone designed, developed, and marketed by Apple Inc. It is part of the 14th generation of the iPhone, succeeding the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 Pro was announced alongside the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and iPhone 14 Pro Max during an Apple special event at the Apple Park in Cupertino, California. This model introduces several significant improvements and new features compared to its predecessors, including enhancements in processing power, camera capabilities, display technology, and connectivity options.

Design[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 14 Pro features a new design with a stainless steel frame, ceramic shield front, and textured matte glass back. It retains the flat-edge design introduced with the iPhone 12 series but with reduced bezels and a smaller notch for the TrueDepth camera system, thanks to the introduction of the "Dynamic Island" which replaces the traditional notch. This new design element is interactive and changes size and shape depending on the type of notifications or activities being displayed.

Specifications[edit | edit source]

Hardware[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 14 Pro is powered by the A16 Bionic chip, which offers improved performance and energy efficiency over its predecessor. It includes a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine capable of 15.8 trillion operations per second. The device comes in four storage capacities: 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB.

The display is a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED, featuring ProMotion technology with adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz, and an always-on display functionality, a first for the iPhone. The always-on display allows users to see important information without having to wake the device.

Camera[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 14 Pro introduces significant upgrades to its camera system, including a new 48MP main sensor that allows for higher resolution photos and improved low-light performance. It also features a LiDAR scanner for better depth sensing and AR experiences, along with a telephoto lens and an ultra-wide lens. Photographic styles and ProRAW are supported, along with ProRes video recording.

Software[edit | edit source]

The device runs on iOS 16, which introduces new customization options, improved privacy features, and enhancements to the Messages and Mail apps. iOS 16 also brings updates to the Lock Screen, allowing for more personalization with widgets and live activities.

Connectivity[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 14 Pro supports 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, and Ultra Wideband (UWB) for spatial awareness. It also introduces satellite connectivity for emergency SOS messages, a feature designed to provide assistance in areas without cellular coverage.

Safety Features[edit | edit source]

A notable safety feature of the iPhone 14 Pro is the Crash Detection capability, which can automatically call emergency services if a severe car crash is detected.

Release[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 14 Pro was released on September 24, 2023. It is available in several colors, including Graphite, Gold, Silver, and Sierra Blue.

Reception[edit | edit source]

The iPhone 14 Pro has received positive reviews for its advanced camera system, the innovative Dynamic Island, and the improvements in processing power and battery life. However, it also faces criticism for its high price point and the lack of significant design changes compared to previous models.
