The film follows the story of Lingesan (played by Vikram), a bodybuilder from Chennai who aspires to become Mr. India. His life takes a dramatic turn when he falls in love with Diya (played by Amy Jackson), a leading model. Lingesan's journey is marred by betrayal, revenge, and transformation, leading to a thrilling climax.

The film was produced by V. Ravichandran under the banner of Aascar Films. The production of I began in 2012 and took over two years to complete. The film was shot in various locations, including China, Thailand, and India.

The soundtrack and background score were composed by A. R. Rahman. The album features seven tracks, with lyrics penned by Kabilan, Madhan Karky, and Kabilan Vairamuthu.

I was released on 14 January 2015, coinciding with the festival of Pongal. The film received mixed reviews from critics but was a commercial success, grossing ₹240 crore worldwide.
