Ingrid Espelid Hovig (December 3, 1924 – November 3, 1998) was a Norwegian chef, author, and television presenter. She is best known for her long-running cooking show Fjernsynskjøkkenet (The Television Kitchen), which aired from 1964 to 1998.

Early Life and Career[edit | edit source]

Hovig was born on December 3, 1924, in Oslo, Norway. She developed a passion for cooking at a young age and pursued her culinary interests by attending cooking school. After completing her education, she worked as a chef in various restaurants in Oslo.

In 1950, Hovig published her first cookbook, Kokebok for alle (Cookbook for Everyone), which became a bestseller in Norway. This marked the beginning of her successful career as a cookbook author. Over the years, she published several more cookbooks, including Ingrids beste (Ingrid's Best) and Ingrids beste til fest (Ingrid's Best for Parties).

In 1964, Hovig was approached by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) to host a cooking show on television. She gladly accepted the offer and thus began her iconic show Fjernsynskjøkkenet. The show featured Hovig demonstrating various recipes and sharing cooking tips with the viewers. Her warm and friendly personality made her a beloved figure in Norwegian households.

Fjernsynskjøkkenet aired for 34 years, making it one of the longest-running cooking shows in Norwegian television history. Hovig's expertise and passion for cooking inspired generations of viewers to try new recipes and explore the culinary world.
