Oslo
Oslo is the capital city of Norway, and also functions as one of the country's most populous cities. It is the economic and governmental hub of Norway, and is also considered a global city. Oslo is the centre of Norwegian trade, banking, industry and shipping. It is an important centre for maritime industries and maritime trade in Europe.

Oslo's history dates back to the Middle Ages, with the city being established by King Harald Hardrada around 1049. The city became a capital under Haakon V of Norway towards the end of the 13th century. Oslo was largely destroyed by a fire in 1624, and was rebuilt by King Christian IV, being renamed Christiania in his honour. It retained this name until 1925, when it was renamed back to Oslo.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Oslo is located in the southeastern part of Norway, at the head of the Oslofjord. The city is spread over 454 square kilometres, and is heavily forested, with hills and mountains creating a natural divide within the city.
Economy[edit | edit source]
Oslo has a highly diverse economy, with a mix of public and private sector jobs. The city is one of the most expensive in the world, but also offers high living standards and a strong economy. Major industries in Oslo include shipping, technology, and energy.
Culture[edit | edit source]
Oslo is a hub of Norwegian and Scandinavian culture. The city is home to many museums, including the Munch Museum, the Viking Ship Museum, and the National Museum of Art, Architecture and Design. The city also hosts the annual Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.
Education[edit | edit source]
Oslo is home to several major educational institutions, including the University of Oslo, Oslo Metropolitan University, and BI Norwegian Business School.
Transport[edit | edit source]
Oslo has a well-developed transport system, with an extensive network of roads, railways, and a major international airport, Oslo Airport, Gardermoen.
