Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences

The Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (IMHANS) is a public autonomous institute located in Kozhikode, Kerala, India. It was established in 1983 and is affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences and the National Board of Examinations. The institute is known for its excellence in community mental health services in Kerala, supported by the Kerala State Mental Health Programme.

IMHANS is a teaching hospital that offers postgraduate programs in mental health, including M.Phil. programs in Clinical Psychology and Psychiatric Social Work. It also provides a specialized post-basic diploma program in Psychiatric Nursing. The academic programs are well-regarded and affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences.

In terms of research, IMHANS has a state-of-the-art molecular laboratory equipped with advanced instruments for molecular assays, including real-time polymerase chain reaction equipment and Capillary Sequencer. This facility enables research in bioinformatics, biochemical studies, and neurophysiology. The institute has also entered into an agreement with the Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology to develop a laboratory for molecular genetics diagnosis.

The permanent campus of IMHANS is located adjacent to the Government Medical College in Kozhikode. The institute was chosen as a center for excellence by the Government of India in 2009.
