Interleukin 37

IL-37 is a protein that is encoded by the IL37 gene in humans. It is a member of the IL-1 family and shares similar gene structure. The IL37 gene is located on chromosome 2 and consists of 6 exons. The protein product is a precursor protein that is processed into its active form by caspase-1.

IL-37 is primarily known for its anti-inflammatory role. It is produced by immune cells in response to inflammatory stimuli and acts to suppress the immune response. This is achieved by inhibiting the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and enhancing the production of anti-inflammatory cytokines.
