Iranshahr

Iranshahr is a city in and the capital of Iranshahr County, in Sistan and Baluchestan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 100,086, in 21,688 families. Iranshahr is the second largest city of the province.

Iranshahr was known as Pahrah in the Sassanid Empire, and renamed Fahraj after the Arab conquest of Iran. It was again renamed Iranshahr by Reza Shah Pahlavi in the 20th century.

Geography[edit | edit source]

Iranshahr is located in the southeast of Iran and has a hot desert climate. It is surrounded by the Kavir Desert to the north and the Lut Desert to the south.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The economy of Iranshahr is mainly based on agriculture, with dates and citrus fruits being the main crops. The city also has a number of small-scale industries.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Iranshahr is known for its rich cultural heritage, with numerous historical sites and cultural events. The city is home to the Iranshahr Theater, one of the oldest theaters in Iran.

Education[edit | edit source]

Iranshahr is home to several educational institutions, including the Iranshahr University and the Iranshahr High School.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Iranshahr is well connected by road and air. The city is served by the Iranshahr Airport and the Iranshahr Bus Terminal.
