János Salamon Petényi

János Salamon Petényi (1804–1855) was a renowned Hungarian paleontologist and natural historian. He is best known for his significant contributions to the field of paleobotany, the study of fossil plants.

Petényi was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1804. He developed an interest in natural history at a young age, which led him to pursue studies in this field. He attended the University of Budapest, where he studied biology and geology.
