J.T.S. Brown

From WikiMD's Food, Medicine & Wellness Encyclopedia

J.T.S. Brown is a brand of bourbon whiskey that is produced and distributed by the Heaven Hill Distilleries. The brand is named after John Thompson Street Brown Jr., a significant figure in the history of bourbon production in Kentucky.

History[edit | edit source]

John Thompson Street Brown Jr. was a bourbon wholesaler in the late 19th century in Louisville, Kentucky. He and his half-brother, George Garvin Brown, founded the Brown-Forman Corporation, one of the largest spirits and wine companies in the world. However, the J.T.S. Brown brand is not part of the Brown-Forman portfolio; it was sold to Heaven Hill following the repeal of Prohibition in the United States.

Production[edit | edit source]

J.T.S. Brown bourbon is produced at the Heaven Hill distillery in Bardstown, Kentucky. The bourbon is available in both 80 proof and 100 proof Bottled in Bond versions. The bourbon is aged for a minimum of four years, as required by the Bottled in Bond Act of 1897.

Flavor Profile[edit | edit source]

J.T.S. Brown bourbon is known for its rich, full-bodied flavor. The bourbon has notes of caramel and vanilla, with a warm, smooth finish. The 100 proof version has a more robust flavor profile, with additional notes of oak and spice.

In Popular Culture[edit | edit source]

J.T.S. Brown bourbon is perhaps best known for its appearance in the 1973 film, The Sting, where it is the drink of choice for the character Johnny Hooker, played by Paul Newman.
