JTV-519

From WikiMD's Wellness Encyclopedia

JTV-519 is a synthetic benzothiazepine derivative that is marketed under the name K201. It is primarily used in the field of cardiology due to its ability to stabilize cardiac muscle cells.

Mechanism of Action[edit | edit source]

JTV-519 works by inhibiting the release of calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, a structure found within cardiac muscle cells. This action helps to prevent the overloading of calcium in the cells, which can lead to cardiac arrhythmia and heart failure.

Uses[edit | edit source]

JTV-519 is used in the treatment of various cardiac conditions, including heart failure, cardiac arrhythmia, and ischemic heart disease. It has also been studied for potential use in the treatment of Duchenne muscular dystrophy.

Side Effects[edit | edit source]

Like all medications, JTV-519 can cause side effects. These may include nausea, vomiting, dizziness, and fatigue. In rare cases, it can cause more serious side effects such as arrhythmia or heart failure.

Research[edit | edit source]

Research into the potential uses of JTV-519 is ongoing. Recent studies have suggested that it may have potential as a treatment for Duchenne muscular dystrophy, a severe type of muscular dystrophy that primarily affects boys.
