The Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company, commonly known as Leinenkugel's, is an American beer company founded in 1867 by Jacob Leinenkugel in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. It is one of the oldest operating breweries in the United States and is currently owned by the Molson Coors Beverage Company.
History[edit | edit source]
The brewery was established by Jacob Leinenkugel, a German American immigrant, and John Miller. Leinenkugel had learned the art of brewing from his father in Germany before emigrating to the United States. The brewery initially produced beer for the local Wisconsin market, but it gradually expanded its distribution.
In 1988, the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company was acquired by the Miller Brewing Company, which later became part of the Molson Coors Beverage Company. Despite the acquisition, the brewery has maintained its traditional brewing methods and family-oriented approach.
Products[edit | edit source]
Leinenkugel's is known for its wide range of beers, including its flagship Leinenkugel's Original, a lager that has been brewed since the company's inception. Other popular products include Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy, a wheat beer mixed with lemonade, and Leinenkugel's Oktoberfest, a Märzen-style beer.
The brewery also produces a variety of seasonal and specialty beers, such as Leinenkugel's Snowdrift Vanilla Porter, Leinenkugel's Canoe Paddler, and Leinenkugel's Berry Weiss.
Brewery and Facilities[edit | edit source]
The original brewery in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin remains operational and serves as the primary production facility. The site includes a visitor center and offers brewery tours, allowing visitors to learn about the brewing process and the company's history.
Community Involvement[edit | edit source]
Leinenkugel's has a long history of community involvement and philanthropy. The company supports various local events and organizations, including the Leinie Lodge Family Reunion, an annual event that brings together fans of the brewery.
