Janet Darbyshire
Janet Darbyshire is a prominent British epidemiologist and medical researcher known for her significant contributions to the field of clinical trials. She has been instrumental in the development and implementation of numerous clinical trials, particularly in the areas of tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS.

Janet Darbyshire was born in the United Kingdom. She pursued her undergraduate studies in statistics at the University of London, after which she went on to earn her doctorate in epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
Career[edit | edit source]
Darbyshire began her career at the Medical Research Council (MRC), where she worked on large scale clinical trials for tuberculosis. Her work at the MRC led to significant advancements in the treatment of the disease. She later became the director of the MRC's Clinical Trials Unit, where she oversaw numerous trials, including those for HIV/AIDS.
In 2001, Darbyshire was appointed as the director of the UK Clinical Research Network (UKCRN), where she played a pivotal role in the establishment and development of the network. Under her leadership, the UKCRN facilitated the conduct of high-quality clinical research across the UK.

Darbyshire's contributions to medical research have been widely recognized. She was awarded the OBE (Officer of the Order of the British Empire) in 1996 for her services to medicine. In 2010, she was awarded the prestigious Prince Mahidol Award for her significant contributions to the field of medicine.
