Jean Leonetti (born 9 July 1958) is a French politician and physician. He is a member of The Republicans party. Leonetti has served as the Mayor of Antibes since 2014 and was a member of the National Assembly from 1997 to 2017, representing the Alpes-Maritimes department.

Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]

Jean Leonetti was born in Marseille, France. He pursued a career in medicine, becoming a physician before entering politics.

Political Career[edit | edit source]

Leonetti began his political career in the late 1990s. He was first elected to the National Assembly in 1997, representing the Alpes-Maritimes department. During his tenure, he was known for his work on bioethics and end-of-life care legislation.

In 2014, Leonetti was elected as the Mayor of Antibes, a position he continues to hold. As mayor, he has focused on urban development, public safety, and environmental sustainability.

Leonetti is particularly noted for his contributions to bioethics and end-of-life care legislation. He authored the Leonetti Law in 2005, which addresses patients' rights and end-of-life care in France. The law aims to prevent unnecessary suffering by allowing patients to refuse treatment and by providing guidelines for palliative care.
