Jean Milligan
Jean Milligan (1886–1978) was a Scottish physical educationist and co-founder of the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society (RSCDS). She played a pivotal role in the preservation and promotion of Scottish country dance.

Jean Milligan was born in Glasgow, Scotland, in 1886. She attended the University of Glasgow, where she studied physical education. After completing her studies, she became a lecturer at Dunfermline College of Physical Education.
Career[edit | edit source]
In 1923, Jean Milligan, along with Ysobel Stewart, co-founded the Royal Scottish Country Dance Society. The society was established to preserve traditional Scottish country dances and to promote new compositions in the same style. Milligan's work with the RSCDS was instrumental in standardizing the steps and formations of Scottish country dances, ensuring their survival for future generations.
Milligan was also a prolific writer and educator. She authored several books and instructional materials on Scottish country dance, which are still used by dancers and instructors around the world.
