- Jefferson County is a county located in the Coastal Plain or Gulf Prairie region of Southeast Texas. The county was established in 1835 as a municipality of Mexico, which had gained independence from Spain. The county seat of Jefferson County is Beaumont.
Geography[edit | edit source]
- Jefferson County is bordered by the Neches River and Sabine Lake. The county has a total area of 1,113 square miles, of which 876 square miles is land and 236 square miles is water.

- As of the 2010 census, the population of Jefferson County was 252,273. The racial makeup of the county was 57.2% White, 33.8% Black or African American, 0.7% Native American, 2.0% Asian, and 5.8% from other races.
