Ernő Jendrassik[edit | edit source]

Ernő Jendrassik (1858–1921) was a Hungarian physician and physiologist. He is best known for his work in neurology and his development of the Jendrassik maneuver, a medical procedure used to test reflexes in the human body.

Jendrassik maneuver[edit | edit source]

The Jendrassik maneuver is a medical procedure used to test the patellar reflex. The procedure is named after Ernő Jendrassik, who developed it in the late 19th century. The Jendrassik maneuver is used to enhance the patellar reflex, and is particularly useful in situations where the reflex is diminished or difficult to elicit.

The Jendrassik maneuver involves the patient clenching their teeth, flexing their neck muscles, or gripping one hand with the other and pulling apart. These actions distract the patient and prevent them from inhibiting their patellar reflex, allowing the healthcare provider to better assess the reflex.
