Jersey City is the second-most populous city in the U.S. state of New Jersey, after Newark. It is the seat of Hudson County and a part of the New York metropolitan area.

Jersey City was originally inhabited by the Lenape people, a Native American tribe. The area was later settled by the Dutch in the 17th century as part of the colony of New Netherland.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Jersey City is located on a peninsula known as Bergen Neck, bordered by the Hudson River and Upper New York Bay to the east, and the Hackensack River and Newark Bay to the west.
Economy[edit | edit source]
Jersey City is a major port of entry and distribution center for goods imported into the United States. It is also a hub for the financial services industry, with many companies having offices in the city's Exchange Place district.

Jersey City is home to several institutions of higher education, including New Jersey City University, Saint Peter's University, and the Hudson County Community College.
