Jiangsu Province (Chinese: 江苏省) is a provincial level division of the People's Republic of China, located along the eastern coast of the country. The province is bordered by Shandong to the north, Anhui to the west, and Zhejiang and Shanghai to the south. Jiangsu is known for its rich history, vibrant economy, and significant cultural contributions.

Jiangsu has been a center of Chinese culture and economy for centuries. The region was historically part of the core area of Chinese civilization along the Yangtze River. During the Ming Dynasty and Qing Dynasty, it became one of the most prosperous parts of China, known for its academics, rich culture, and commerce.
Geography[edit | edit source]
Jiangsu spans an area of about 107,200 square kilometers and features a variety of geographical landscapes, including rivers, lakes, and mountains. The province is predominantly flat, lying at the Yangtze River Delta, and it has a significant coastline along the Yellow Sea. Major rivers include the Yangtze River and the Huai River.

Jiangsu is one of China's wealthiest provinces and has one of the highest GDPs in the country. Its economy is diverse, with strong sectors in electronics, textiles, chemicals, and automotive. The province is also a major hub for China's manufacturing and technology industries.

Jiangsu is famous for its traditional Chinese arts, including Kunqu, one of the oldest forms of Chinese opera, and Suzhou embroidery, known for its beauty and intricacy. The province is also home to many historical sites, such as the classical gardens of Suzhou, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Jiangsu is divided into 13 prefecture-level divisions: 11 cities and 2 urban districts. These are further subdivided into counties and municipalities. The capital city, Nanjing, serves as the political and cultural center of the province.

Jiangsu is renowned for its high educational standards and is home to several prestigious universities, including Nanjing University and Southeast University. The province's education system consistently ranks among the best in China.
Tourism[edit | edit source]
Tourism in Jiangsu features a blend of historical, cultural, and natural attractions. Key tourist destinations include the Zhouzhuang, known as the "Venice of the East," and the aforementioned classical gardens in Suzhou.
