People's Republic of China (PRC) is a sovereign state located in East Asia. It is the world's most populous country, with a population of over 1.4 billion. The PRC is a one-party state governed by the Communist Party of China (CPC), with its seat of government in the capital city of Beijing.

The PRC was established on October 1, 1949, by the Chinese Communist Party led by Mao Zedong. It followed the end of the Chinese Civil War, which led to the overthrow of the Nationalist Government of the Republic of China.

Geography[edit | edit source]

The PRC is the third or fourth largest country by total area, and is slightly smaller than the entire continent of Europe. Its landscape is vast and diverse, ranging from forest steppes and the Gobi and Taklamakan deserts in the arid north to subtropical forests in the wetter south.

Economy[edit | edit source]

The PRC is the world's largest economy by purchasing power parity, and the second largest by nominal GDP. It is a global hub for manufacturing, being the largest manufacturer and exporter of goods in the world.

Culture[edit | edit source]

Chinese culture is one of the world's oldest cultures, tracing back to thousands of years ago. The area over which the culture prevails covers a large geographical region in East Asia and is extremely diverse and varying, with customs and traditions varying greatly between provinces, cities, and even towns.
