Shanghai is the most populous city in China and one of the most populous cities in the world. It is located on the eastern coast of China, at the mouth of the Yangtze River, and is a global hub for finance, innovation, and transportation.

Shanghai's history dates back to the Neolithic Age, but it wasn't until the Song Dynasty that it grew into importance as a trading port. During the Qing Dynasty, it became one of the most important sea ports in the world. The city continued to grow and develop throughout the 20th century, despite periods of conflict and political change.

Shanghai is located on China's eastern coast, and is roughly equidistant from Beijing and Guangzhou. The city spans the Huangpu River, with the urban core located on the east bank of the river. Shanghai's climate is classified as a humid subtropical climate.

Transportation[edit | edit source]

Shanghai is a major transportation hub, with an extensive public transportation system that includes the Shanghai Metro, buses, and taxis. The city is also served by two international airports: Shanghai Pudong International Airport and Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport.
