Fudan University
Fudan University (Simplified Chinese: 复旦大学; Traditional Chinese: 復旦大學; Pinyin: Fùdàn Dàxué) is a major public university located in Shanghai, China. It is widely recognized as one of the most prestigious and selective universities in China. Established in 1905, Fudan University was originally known as Fudan Public School. Its name was suggested by the educator Ma Xiangbo, and it derives from a phrase in the Classic of History – Fùdàn Jìzhí (復旦繼志), which means "brilliant sunlight" or "renewal of the day".

The history of Fudan University can be traced back to the late Qing Dynasty when it was founded by Ma Xiangbo, SJ, in 1905. The university started as Fudan Public School with only a handful of students. Over the decades, it has evolved into a comprehensive university with a wide range of disciplines including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, engineering, and medicine. During the Cultural Revolution, the university was affected significantly, but it emerged in the reform era as a leading institution in China's higher education.

Fudan University's main campus is located in Yangpu District, Shanghai, and it includes four campuses: Handan, Fenglin, Zhangjiang, and Jiangwan. The Handan campus is the oldest and houses the majority of the undergraduate students.
