Johann Ludwig Choulant

Johann Ludwig Choulant (1791–1861) was a German physician, medical historian, and bibliographer. He is renowned for his contributions to the history of medicine and medical literature.

Johann Ludwig Choulant was born on November 12, 1791, in Dresden, Germany. He pursued his medical studies at the University of Leipzig, where he earned his medical degree in 1818. His early education laid the foundation for his future work in medical history and bibliography.

He also authored "Geschichte und Bibliographie der anatomischen Abbildung," a detailed history and bibliography of anatomical illustration. This work is notable for its thorough documentation of the development of anatomical illustration from antiquity to the 19th century.
