John Dewar Sr.
John Dewar Sr. (1805 – 1880) was a Scottish distiller and the founder of John Dewar & Sons, a prominent Scotch whisky distillery. Dewar is credited with establishing one of the most successful and enduring brands in the history of Scotch whisky.
Early Life[edit | edit source]
John Dewar was born in 1805 in Perthshire, Scotland. He grew up in a rural environment, which was typical for the time, and was exposed to the traditional methods of whisky production from a young age.
Career[edit | edit source]
In 1846, Dewar founded John Dewar & Sons in Perth, Scotland. Initially, the company was a small operation, but Dewar's commitment to quality and innovation quickly set his products apart from the competition. He was one of the first distillers to blend whisky, a practice that would become standard in the industry.

Under Dewar's leadership, John Dewar & Sons grew rapidly. The company became known for its high-quality blended Scotch whisky, which gained popularity both in the United Kingdom and internationally.
