Jonathan David LaPook (born September 1, 1953) is an American physician and journalist who serves as the chief medical correspondent for CBS News. He is known for his work in medical journalism and his efforts to communicate complex medical information to the public.

Early life and education[edit | edit source]

Jonathan LaPook was born in Mineola, New York, and raised in Great Neck, New York. He attended Yale University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1975. He then pursued his medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, graduating in 1980. LaPook completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center.

He is affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and serves as a professor of medicine at the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons.
