Joseph Storrs Fry
Joseph Storrs Fry (1769–1835) was an English chocolate and cocoa manufacturer and a key figure in the development of the modern chocolate industry. He was a member of the prominent Fry family, which played a significant role in the history of chocolate production in the United Kingdom.

Joseph Storrs Fry was born in 1769 into the Fry family, which had been involved in the chocolate business since the early 18th century. His grandfather, Joseph Fry, founded the family business, J.S. Fry & Sons, in 1759. The company was based in Bristol, England.

Joseph Storrs Fry took over the family business in 1795 after the death of his father, Joseph Fry. Under his leadership, the company made significant advancements in chocolate production. In 1795, Fry purchased a Watt steam engine, which allowed the company to grind cocoa beans with greater efficiency. This innovation marked the beginning of the industrialization of chocolate production.
In 1847, J.S. Fry & Sons created the first chocolate bar, a significant milestone in the history of chocolate. This development transformed chocolate from a beverage to a solid confectionery product, making it more accessible and popular among the general public.
