Juanita Merchant
Juanita L. Merchant is an American physician and researcher known for her contributions to the field of gastroenterology. She is a prominent figure in the study of gastrointestinal diseases, particularly in understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying gastric cancer and peptic ulcer disease.
Early Life and Education[edit | edit source]
Juanita Merchant was born in Los Angeles, California. She pursued her undergraduate studies at Stanford University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She then attended the Yale School of Medicine, obtaining her MD degree. Following her medical degree, she completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital.

After completing her residency, Merchant pursued a fellowship in Gastroenterology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She later joined the faculty at the University of Michigan, where she has held various academic and clinical positions.
